I don’t need another lip color or blusher, but if I did, I’d be scooping up a few items from Korres. I’ve had an eye on their Cheek Butter in Philia Rose for a while; actually, I’d probably use it as a lip color instead. And now there’s a new lip product called Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Lip Cooler, which seems to be a tinted conditioning balm in a tube. My pick would be Raspberry.

Product Review: Korres Quercetin & Oak Anti-Ageing Primer

Woman painting wall

To prime or not to prime? Many of my beauty-blogging friends, including Gaia at The Non-Blonde, insist that a base layer is necessary: it helps makeup to apply smoothly, keeps it color-true, and makes it last longer.

I like the general idea of primers, so I started trying them about six years ago, but I wasn’t happy with the results. My skin has some surface oiliness, so I never felt like the primers really adhered. Worse yet, most primers’ heavy doses of various silicones clogged my pores if I used them on any regular basis.

The happy exception to the above, and the only primer I’ve ever repurchased, is Korres Quercetin & Oak Anti-Ageing Primer.

Covet: Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection 2013

estee mad men

I somehow didn’t know anything about this new Mad Men-inspired cosmetics collection until I happened to pass an Estée Lauder counter in Nordstrom last weekend.

It’s a small collection, just three items: a blush called Light Show, a lipstick called Pinkadelic, and a nail polish called Pink Paisley, all presented in late-1960s-style packaging reproduced from the Lauder archives.

I don’t need another rosey pink lipstick, or another pale pink polish, or another blush—especially not at this price point, which seems somewhat high for the brand. All the same, I had a moment of weakness there at the Lauder counter.

I warded off temptation, but this collection did remind me how much I’m looking forward to Mad Men‘s sixth season. Countdown to April 7th!

Product Review: Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser

Over the past year or so I’ve learned to treat my skin more carefully, with a special emphasis on gentle cleansing. My current regimen includes a spritz of rosewater and a tiny dab of LUSH 9 to 5 in the morning and my trusty Victoria Lanolin Ägg-Tvål Eggwhite Facial Soap in the evening. Once a week or so, I give myself an extra treat with Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip cleaner.

A Quest and A Look Back, plus: OPI Give Me The Moon Nail Polish

Just about a year ago, the product-sampling club Birchbox invited me to take part in a competition. Twelve bloggers were submitting their ideas for a new nail polish color, with a name, a description and a “mood board.” Three winners would see their concepts made into actual products by the nail-polish brand Zoya.

How could I refuse?
