Covet: Uniqlo x Ladurée T-Shirts

Screen Shot 2013-05-14 at 8.47.28 PM

I love cats. I love macarons from Ladurée. I only wear t-shirts for sleeping and housework, but I’d love to own this one. It’s the color of a pistachio macaron and it features the silhouette of the most chic little black cat. It’s just one item in the latest collaboration between Uniqlo and another brand—in this case, a renowned Parisian pâtisserie.

You can view the limited-edition Uniqlo x Ladurée collection at the Uniqlo website.

Covet: Rose Dress at Small Earth Vintage

I’m a frequent browser and regular shopper at Small Earth Vintage, an Etsy boutique that offers a fine selection of good-quality vintage clothing and accessories. (Full disclosure: I’d enjoy shopping at Small Earth even if the proprietors weren’t old friends of mine.)

Right now I’m particularly smitten with this 1950s wrap dress. I love any pattern that sets a romantic floral motif (especially roses!) against a more graphic, black-and-white background, and this design is especially lovely.

The measurements show that this garment probably won’t quite fit me, which is disappointing, but I’m sure it will find a good home in some other vintage-lover’s closet.

On the Street: Lilly Pulitzer, Madison Avenue, NYC

lilly

The designer Lilly Pulitzer, who was famous for her brightly colored, whimsically patterned mini-dresses and other resort wear, died on April 7th. (You can read her obituary here.)

I walked by the Lilly Pulitzer boutique on Madison Avenue this afternoon; things seemed to be business as usual. I expected some sort of tribute display in the window, perhaps a photo of Mrs. Pulitzer herself with some vintage outfits arranged around it. But the current display, just a row of cheerful shift dresses against a splashy floral backdrop, could have represented any day in the designer’s business from the 1960s through today.

On the other hand, there’s something just right about that.

You can listen to a short National Public Radio story about Lilly Pulitzer and her designs here.

Covet: Charlotte Olympia Perfume Clutches for Spring 2013

I don’t wear bright colors, I don’t carry clutch purses, and I don’t have $1,300 to spend. However, if I did, I’d be eyeing Charlotte Olympia’s Spring 2013 handbag collection. It includes three “transparent enamel” (lucite? perspex?) clutches shaped like old-fashioned perfume bottles. One of them is pink and has a closure just like a bulb atomizer.

Another design evokes the classic Chanel no. 5 bottle, making just enough alterations to avoid copyright infringement!

Fun, no?

Charlotte Olympia products can be viewed (and purchased, if you’re able!) at the Neiman Marcus website.
