Manhattan has more Duane Reade drugstores than I can count. They seem to multiply on their own, and some of the newer ones are quite large. I recently entered a Duane Reade looking for something specific and realized that I was in the same DR store I’d visited ten minutes ago, except that on my first visit I’d entered and exited from another door located around the corner and nearly a block away…if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I got caught in a rainstorm one night this week and popped into the nearest Duane Reade—just a few feet away!—to wait and stay dry. I ended up transfixed by displays of cosmetics from the new Circa and Nonie Creme/Color Prevails lines. This happened. Reviews to follow.
I’ve just received word from an Anna Sui representative that the brand’s nail color collection will be relaunched this summer, in 45 new shades. As you can see in the photos above and below, the textures and finishes range from glitters and cremes to metallics and speckles. Continue reading
The FedEx truck made a stop at my door tonight, and I’ve just opened a sample of Lipstick Queen’s new product for winter/holiday 2014: Ice Queen, a snowy-white illuminating lipstick that brings “a whisper of silver and gold and a hint of iridescence” to lips.
Today I was able to preview Diptyque’s limited edition candles for the 2013 holiday season. The Madison Avenue boutique was offering them just for two days; they’ll return, for the full holiday season (until they run out!), in November.
This year, the candles’ glass containers are gilded over their coloring, which gives them an added luminosity when they’re lit. The oval decals have delicate gilt motifs inspired, reportedly, by the art of Gustav Klimt as well as The Arabian Nights.
Sorting through a few press releases in my e-mail in-box, I was happy to read this announcement (and to see these lovely images):
“This October, L’OCCITANE will introduce a colorful Limited-Edition Shea Butter Collection, Shea Flowers of Love. The series adds a touch of cheer to winter by combining three unique scents (Rose Tenderness, Subtle Violet and Passionate Jasmine) with their signature ingredient, Shea Butter.”
Each scent will be available in a travel-size hand cream ($12), a body cream ($22), and a lip balm ($12). Since rose and violet are my two favorite fragrance notes, and I’m a longtime fan of L’Occitane’s shea butter products, I’ll be tempted to scoop up a few of these limited edition items.

When I started this blog, I promised my friend Alyssa that it would feature plenty of lipstick reviews. This is more of a preview than a proper review, but still, I think it’s worth sharing. I love Anna Sui’s clothing, and her makeup line (manufactured by Albion Cosmetics) often catches my fancy as well.
Really, this isn’t going turn into a lipstick-only blog; I’ll get back to other topics soon! But just yesterday I noticed this page in the Barneys catalogue and I needed to know more about the “20 new shades” in Lipstick Queen’s Saints and Sinners lipstick collection. How did I almost miss this piece of news from one of my favorite cosmetics lines?
