Summer weather has arrived early in my part of the world (where did spring go?!), and I’m updating my suncare regimen to combat the season’s intense sunlight and longer daylight.
I’m still loyal to Pratima’s Neem Rose Face Sunscreen, but sometimes I just don’t have the time to make a trip to SoHo to buy a new bottle, and I refuse to pay Pratima’s high shipping fees, so I’ve been looking for something to alternate with the Neem Rose. Continue reading
We’re nowhere near the end of summer, but I just ran out of both my facial sunblocks, Pratima Neem Rose Face Sunscreen and Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF40. (Apparently I’ve been practicing good sun protection!) When I went to purchase a new bottle of one or the other, however, I realized that both products were sold out.
What to do?
Fortunately, I found a few sample packets of Aesop Sage & Zinc Hydrating Cream in my drawer. This seemed like the moment to give them a try.
As you may know, I’ve been trying various facial moisturizers with built-in sun protection this winter, ever since my longtime favorite 100% Pure Pomegranate Antioxidant Hydration was reformulated. Some caused irritation; some were just a bit too greasy. However, I feel like I’ve hit the skincare jackpot with Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF40+.
Last week I mentioned my search for a new facial sunscreen-moisturizer and I described my trial of Pur-lisse’s SPF 30 Pur-Protect Essential Daily Moisturizer, which didn’t quite work for me. This week’s subject: John Masters Organics SPF 30 Natural Mineral Sunscreen.
As I’ve mentioned before, I wear sunblock on my face every day, even during winter, even in the city. And I’ve often had a difficult time finding a facial sun-protection product that I really like.
So I’m sorry to say that if I had to list my beauty-related disappointments of 2012, a top complaint would be the wretched reformulation of my long-cherished Pomegranate Antioxidant Hydration with SPF 20, made by 100% Pure. It was recently changed from a medium-weight, but easily absorbed, facial moisturizer with a high level of physical sunblock to a thick, dry, un-blendable white paste. (I did leave a negative comment about this change on the 100% Pure product page, but customer reviews are no longer being shown there. Interesting.)
I know; I know. This should be my biggest problem in life. But it was such an ideal everyday combination product. Now I’m forced to audition a few other sunblock-moisturizer hybrids, and I’ll be sharing the results of my efforts here.
Although I wear sunblock on my face all year ’round, I’m especially conscious of the need for protection on sunny summer days. I recently tried out a new product, Bare Minerals’ Advanced Protection SPF 20 Moisturizer for Combination Skin, which boasts a “proprietary ActiveSoil Complex” as well as hydration and a mineral-based sun shield.
Even though the ayurvedic spa Pratima is located in New York, I didn’t know about it until three years ago, when I came across some Pratima Skincare products in a salon-boutique in Philadelphia. Ever since I first brought home a few of those products, I’ve made many visits to Pratima Spa to restock my supply of Neem Rose Face Sunscreen.
