A Birthday/Christmas Song for My Brother

My brother’s birthday is December 18th, just a week before Christmas. I was three-and-a-half years old when he was born, and I can still remember the excitement of his arrival combined with the anticipation of the holiday.

Last week I mentioned the Brooklyn-based “herbal apothecary” Mullein & Sparrow in my post about the BUST Magazine Craftacular. I picked up one item for myself at the Mullein & Sparrow table: a handmade, all-natural Tinted Lip & Cheek Balm packaged in a screw-top tin with a vintage-inspired label.

Just Because: Winslow Homer, The Country School
I was about to finish writing another post for today, but the news on the radio has distracted and saddened me.
So, instead of a lip balm review (maybe tomorrow), here’s a painting by one of my favorite artists, with a wish for more American children to be kept innocent and safe in their daily lives, and a prayer for those who were killed in Connecticut today.
