Last week, on January 23rd, Christie’s held an auction of Elsa Schiaparelli’s personal possessions at its Paris location. You can read a bit about the auction and see some images here, at the Christie’s website. If you’re anything of a Schiaparelli fan, you’ll enjoy the pictures and you’ll probably wish you could have seen the objects in person (and maybe purchased a little something!).

Let’s go fantasy-shopping! Here are just a few of my favorite listings in the auction catalogue…

Covet: Tiffany & Company Wild Rose Lapel Watch

paulding farnham

Now we’re in the realm of pure fantasy.

I was doing some research for work and I found this image while I was reading about Paulding Farnham (1859-1927), the relatively unknown designer behind many of Tiffany & Company’s most exquisite jewelry of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Wouldn’t you love to wear a “lapel watch” that pinned to your dress or jacket, with its face half-concealed within enameled flower petals? especially when the flower is a wild rose? This beautiful item was exhibited at the 1889 Paris Exposition, and it’s now owned by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Just something to dream about on a gray and blustery day.

Quick Reads: Elisa Lempicka’s Apartment in NYC

I’ll always have a fondness for Lolita Lempicka perfumes. I was wearing the original Lolita Lempicka fragrance, the one in the purple apple-shaped bottle, during one of the happiest times of my life, and I’ve tried and enjoyed all the others.

I also have a fantasy of living in a roomy apartment in an old building in Greenwich Village, which will never come true, because I am not a billionaire. But you know who does live in one of those apartments? Elisa Lempicka, Lolita Lempicka’s daughter and the creative director for the LL perfume brand. I’m trying not to succumb to the deadly sin of envy (for her whole life).

In any case, you can see photos of the apartment at Time Out New York. Here’s a shot of family photos mingled with Lolita Lempicka perfumes, candles from Cire Trudon and Ladurée, and La Maison du Chocolate candy boxes, plus who-knows-what-else. Again, envy.
