Sorry about all those exclamation points… I’m just a little (well, a lot!) excited about a new business venture that has opened in Jersey City, New Jersey, where I happen to live. Jersey City lies directly across the river from Manhattan, and I love our section of town for its (relative) affordability, its diversity, its neighborhood feeling, and its total lack of pretense. All the same, I sometimes wish I could shop locally for “green” toiletries and healthy artisanal foods, rather than bringing them home from Manhattan.

Last Friday I went to Bergdorf Goodman and had my makeup applied by one of Guerlain’s regional makeup artists. Her name was Jessica Mayo. She was friendly and sweet, and she expertly selected shades that really worked for my coloring and then taught me some skincare and application tips. When we were finished, she filled out the above face-chart for me. Obviously, I can’t buy everything on that list, but I did make a small purchase or two. Reviews of these products to follow soon!
I wrote about Mullein & Sparrow, an all-natural skincare company based in New York, over a year ago when I visited a craft market, and I reviewed one of their products here. I’ve been following the brand’s doings ever since.
And here’s some good news: Mullein & Sparrow is having a summer sale on all its products through June 30, 2014. You can get 20% off all orders with the code SUMMER at check out. United States orders over $75 ship free.
To shop at the Mullein & Sparrow website, you can click the floral image above, or here.
(Full disclosure: this is an affiliate link. I’ve shopped with M&S before, and I really do like their products.)
Last weekend I paid a visit to the gallery space Warehouse 623 in Brooklyn to catch Alexis Karl’s multimedia exhibition “Mythological Evolution” before it closed. I’ve known Alexis for eight years or so. We first met when she was presenting her fragrance line Scent by Alexis at Henri Bendel, and I was immediately charmed by her fragrances and her overall style.
This exhibition, which ran from May 3 through May 24, brought together Alexis’ work in sculpture, painting, video, music, and fragrance. Its conceit was an alternative theory of evolution that involved lots of ruined (and re-emerging) civilizations, hybrid beings, and otherworldly transformations.
WHY: The Rouge Bunny Rouge line of cosmetics and fragrance is becoming more widely available in the United States, and I have some perfume samples to share. (Only in the United States, however—sorry, foreign friends!)
WHAT: New sample vials (2.5 ml each) of four Rouge Bunny Rouge fragrances: Vespers, Chatoyant, Incantation, and Lilt. These are spray-atomizer samples, which makes them even nicer to use, in my opinion! The cards list the notes for each fragrance.
HOW: For a chance to win, leave a comment telling me that you live in the United States. Be sure to use the “Post a reply” box to create a new comment; do not reply to a previous comment!…
It’s that time again: Barneys is offering a gift bag of deluxe samples with your beauty and/or fragrance purchase of $250 and up. (I know, that’s ridiculous. I’m just the messenger!)…
