A few days ago I had lunch with my dear friend A. at Le Grainne Café in Chelsea. When we’d finished our meal, we strolled a bit in the dazing heat, trying to decide whether to do some shopping or just say our good-byes and head back to our (air-conditioned) homes, and then we stopped to admire this window.

These flyers were posted on East 33rd Street in Manhattan a few weeks ago. They caught my eye for two reasons. First, they made a visually striking display on the blue-painted plywood surrounding a construction site. Second, their design was an homage to a classic album cover. On the Street: Botticelli at BVLGARI
The Italian retailer Bulgari occupies prime real estate at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifty-seventh Street for its New York flagship. The large areas of the building’s facade above street level are often filled with blown-up images of the brand’s jewelry and handbags. The last time I walked by, however, I noticed that Bulgari was showing us something different, a much older piece of Italian culture: details of the Renaissance masterpiece Primavera by Sandro Botticelli.
