My Back Pages: Sherlock Holmes & The Hound of the Baskervilles

I was recently writing a review of some body products inspired by Brideshead Revisited and I ended up flipping through my well-loved copy of the novel in search of scent-related lines. There were more than I remembered. This is often the case: I pick up a book that I haven’t read in a while and I end up noticing references to perfume, fragrance, the sense of smell.

Caron “Powder Happy Hour” at New London Pharmacy, NYC

New London Pharmacy hosted a happy hour event last night to feature Caron’s facial powder line at its cosmetics counter. I’m a loyal user of Caron’s powder and I always enjoy stopping by New London, so I didn’t want to miss this gathering. (Not to mention that many of the powder products were being offered at special prices for the occasion!)

On the Street: Botticelli at BVLGARI

The Italian retailer Bulgari occupies prime real estate at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifty-seventh Street for its New York flagship. The large areas of the building’s facade above street level are often filled with blown-up images of the brand’s jewelry and handbags. The last time I walked by, however, I noticed that Bulgari was showing us something different, a much older piece of Italian culture: details of the Renaissance masterpiece Primavera by Sandro Botticelli.  Continue reading “On the Street: Botticelli at BVLGARI”
