Latley I’ve been coyly hinting at the fact that I’ve been trying some new haircare products, so it’s time for me to share some details!
I have a hard time resisting products designed for curly hair, because I can remember a time when there weren’t any curly-hair products on the market. Many of the products from Carol’s Daughter are suitable for textured hair, but its new Marula Curl Therapy collection seems to be its first curl-specific line…
Carol’s Daughter Marula Curl Therapy Diffusing & Styling Lotion includes moisturizing botanical ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, honey, and—yes—marula oil. It’s free of parabens and petroleum-based ingredients. However, it does include silicones and polymers; just something to be aware of, in case you like to avoid or limit those ingredients in your hair regimen.
This product is a creamy lotion-gel with a light honey-vanilla scent. I’ve been working a quarter-sized amount through my damp, towel-dried curls before using my blow-dryer and diffuser; it doesn’t leave any stickiness on my hands or hair.
Marula Diffusing & Styling Lotion leaves my hair feeling very soft and smooth, with minimal frizz. It’s a great product for rainy or humid days. On the other hand, if I use it on a low-humidity day, I feel like my curls are a bit looser and more relaxed than I’d like them to be; this product “defines” best when there’s some moisture in the air.
That’s where Olivine Atelier’s Love + Salt Beach Hair and Body Mist comes in. When I need to enhance my hair’s curl formation a little more I spritz this product all over my head after applying the Carol’s Daughter Marula cream, and “scrunch” for good measure.
Love + Salt is a water-based spray that contains four kinds of salt (epsom salts, pink Himalayan salt, French sea salt, dendritic salt) plus coconut oil for moisture. It has a coconut-vanilla scent that mixes well with the Carol’s Daughter Marula fragrance, and it gives my hair some extra volume and wave without any crispiness.
I’m pretty happy with this duo; I wish the Marula Diffusing & Styling Lotion were silicone-free, but I just make sure not to use it every day in order to avoid silicone overload.
You can find Carol’s Daughter’s Marula Curl Therapy line at the Carol’s Daughter website and Carol’s Daughter stores. I received my product as a press sample.
