Product Review: RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile

In February I received another delightful box of “green beauty” items from the subscription service Boxwalla. I can’t praise this company highly enough. Every item I’ve received so far has been high quality and has fit right into my beauty regimen.

One of my favorites from February’s Beauty Box, which had the theme of “Cleopatra,” is RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek in Smile, plus a RMS Skin2Skin Blush Brush.

This shade of Lip2Cheek is Smile, a “modern sheer coral/pink with a slight 50’s feel.” It’s something I might never have picked up in a store, because it appears too bright and warm for my skintone. (This photo shows it in direct sunlight.) However, Lavanya (Boxwalla’s co-founder) had praised this product so warmly that I felt I needed to try it at least once.

Guess what? It started as a vivid coral on my skin, but once I’d patted and blended for about 10 seconds, it transformed into a sheer, peachy-rosy shade.

Here’s Smile in more diffused light (above), just before I took the plunge and applied it to my cheeks.

Lip2Cheek’s formula includes coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, buriti oil, and other botanical ingredients with moisturizing benefits, which may explain how the product melts so seamlessly into skin.

Here’s a swatch on my inner arm (below). Once again, don’t let the intensity of the unblended Lip2Cheek scare you: it’s very concentrated, so a little goes a long way and ends up looking like skin’s own natural flush.

I actually didn’t love the accompanying RMS brush as much; I like the way it feels, but it’s just a little too narrow to work effectively as a blush brush for me. I may try using it for eye color (especially a neutral base shade) or highlighter. Instead, I’m using a finger tip to apply three dabs of Lip2Cheek along each cheekbone and then blending it with my trusty Jane Iredale Handi Brush.

I’ve also tried applying just a tiny bit to my lips with my pinky finger, which is a perfect touch of subtle color for a low-makeup day.

I’m so glad I trusted Boxwalla and gave Smile a try — it’s already become part of my daily makeup routine for spring-summer. I’ve subscribed to Boxwalla and I’m looking forward to seeing what April’s Beauty Box brings!

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek retails for $36 (.15 oz./4.5 g). It’s available through the RMS website and B-Glowing. To learn more about Boxwalla and create a subscription, visit the Boxwalla site.
