I’m really more a lipstick-lover than a gloss-lover, but this lip gloss caught my attention.
It’s called Stain and it’s part of Colourpop’s second “KaePop” collection, a collaboration with model-actress Karrueche Tran. Unlike some other Colourpop “collabs,” this one includes shades and textures that work for everyday life, not just for Instagram preening.
Stain is described by ColourPop as “a soft burgundy in a sheer finish.” It looks like a warmer-toned wine in person, but on my lips it turns out to be more neutral, neither too warm nor too blue-toned. It’s just slightly deeper and richer than my natural lip color. And yes, it’s shiny, but not ridiculously so.
Here’s a swatch:
Stain wears like a typical gloss, which means it doesn’t stick around for long. Now I remember why I generally prefer lipsticks. . .on the other hand, I’m also remembering that it’s easy and sort of fun to reapply gloss.
Lipsticks might be the jazz standards of my makeup collection, but gloss is the occasional pop song that gets stuck in my head, I guess. Nothing wrong with that.
KaePop Ultra Glossy Lip in Stain costs $6 on the Colourpop website.
