Last week I mentioned that I’d stopped into Duane Reade to get out of the rain and ended up buying a few products from the new makeup brand Colour Prevails (see here). Colour Prevails is the latest project from Nonie Creme, a longtime fashion-world manicurist and the former creative director of Butter London, a trend-setting nail polish brand introduced in 2005.
Colour Prevails promises to make advanced formulas and on-trend colors available in a drugstore setting—a “masstige” cosmetics collection, if you will! The brand’s packaging is eye-catching, with colorful butterfly-wing designs and shiny goldtone accents. It looks almost retro-80s, with a nod to the 60s. Also, the prices are very reasonable—many items are under $10, and the most expensive item is an 8-pan eyeshadow palette for $19.
I’ll be writing a few reviews of my Colour Prevails acquisitions over the coming weeks, beginning with a few thoughts about Colour Wash Comfort Balm.

Manhattan has more Duane Reade drugstores than I can count. They seem to multiply on their own, and some of the newer ones are quite large. I recently entered a Duane Reade looking for something specific and realized that I was in the same DR store I’d visited ten minutes ago, except that on my first visit I’d entered and exited from another door located around the corner and nearly a block away…if that makes any sense.
