It’s been a while since I wrote a post about my favorite drugstore items (see here!), and this seems like a good time to do another one, to balance out all the fancy-makeup reviews I’ve been writing lately.
Here are five drugstore products that I’ve been using and enjoying for a while.
Sometimes, on a cloudy and frigid late-winter day when you’re feeling down, you just have to buy something completely self-indulgent and light-hearted. (Well, maybe you don’t, but I do!) This month, it was Paul & Joe Beauté to the rescue. I’m always fond of their limited edition cosmetics packaging, and this kitten design is a Paul & Joe classic.
I’ve written before about my interest in BITE Beauty (and my visit to its “lab” in NYC!), but I don’t think I’ve done a straightforward review of any BITE products. Here’s one for a lipstick that I’ve been wearing often over the past month: BITE’s Luminous Creme Lipstick in Zin.

Nothing forces us to assess our usual makeup routines like a summer heat wave. This is the time to pare down, to lighten up, and to keep things simple. It’s also the time when we (or I, at least) need to fight extra facial shine. The problem is that most “mattifying” makeup also has a tendency to look chalky, or else it includes ingredients that irritate my skin.
LUSH’s Emotional Brilliance Translucent Face Powder is beautifully simple, and it’s been my everyday finishing powder for the past year. For special days/nights, I still turn to Caron’s loose powder, but Emotional Brilliance is a basic yet effective (and affordable) alternative.
