It’s been a while since I wrote a post about my favorite drugstore items (see here!), and this seems like a good time to do another one, to balance out all the fancy-makeup reviews I’ve been writing lately.
Here are five drugstore products that I’ve been using and enjoying for a while.
Wet ‘n’ Wild ColorIcon Eye Shadow Trio in Walking on Eggshells: This brand has been around since my middle-school years, or longer…but I didn’t realize until a year or two ago that they actually offer some good quality color cosmetics. Walking on Eggshells is a trio of shimmery neutral powders that apply easily and last through the day. ($3)
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer: The click-pen dispenser is a bit of a nuisance, but the product itself is a very affordable alternative to high-end illuminating concealers like Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat or Eve Lom Light Illusion Concealer. I use it under my eyes, on browbones, above eyebrows, etc. ($6)
EOS Hand Lotion: I’m slightly unnerved by the ergonomic container, and the fragrances are just “eh,” but the formula is simple and effective, and the flip-top cap is so convenient for anyone who decides to apply hand lotion while in motion and/or carrying too many bags (i.e., me).
Sally Hansen Tulle Kit (823): I feel bad recommending this, because I just realized that it was a “limited edition” and now it’s hard to find…but I do love this shimmery, iridescent lavender-blue. I think it’s meant to be used as a top coat, but I like it on its own. (originally about $6)
Smoothies “Swirly” Tortoiseshell Barrette: I’ve been growing my hair longer for the past few months, and I needed some new ways to keep it out my face when I’m reading or working. This company’s barrettes truly do not pinch or tear my hair, and they’re neither too big nor too small. ($6.50)
Do you have any current drugstore favorites to recommend? Feel free to share!

Love that image! Reminds me of Angela’s mystery Lanvin Murders, the main character lives a life of vintage. Love that you find the good things everywhere, drugstores these days are so big and have so much they are like the hardware stores of yore. You could recreate western civilization from them if you had to. Thanks for the tips, especially the eyeshadow and the hair clip.
So true about big American drugstores: they have everything! I guess they’ve carried on the Woolworth’s tradition.
