5 on 5: My Skincare Essentials

It’s the fifth of the month again, and I’m inspired to create another list of five things that I like. I’ve already posted about my makeup staples, so this will be a follow-up post, listing five very basic skincare products that I’ve purchased and repurchased over the past few years.

Heritage Rose Petals Rosewater: This product is easy to find at health food stores and it’s available in various sizes. I use it as a substitute for a facial cleanser in the morning, spritzed onto a cotton ball and wiped over the skin. It can also be used as a refreshing body spray or a lightly scented linen mist. I’m a rose-lover and I can’t get enough of it.

Victoria Lanolin-Agg-Tval Eggwhite Facial Soap: I very recently wrote an entire post about these precious little bars, now that they’re available on the United States market again. This is my favorite nighttime cleanser. It removes all my makeup without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry. I also love the old-fashioned packaging.

Desert Essence 100% Pure Jojoba Oil: It doesn’t have to be Desert Essence, necessarily, but plain jojoba oil is a wonderful multi-tasker. It works as a thorough and gentle eye-makeup remover, an overnight treatment for dry hair, a body oil for dry skin, a spot treatment for parched facial skin… you get the idea.

100% Pure Pomegranate Antioxidant Hydration: This two-in-one product combines a lightweight moisturizer with SPF 20 (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). It’s a good basic for busy mornings. It wears well under makeup and gives me enough protection for everyday city living. The only problem: the company periodically runs out of stock. It must be a popular item.

Crazy Rumors Lip Balm: Your face includes your mouth! I’ve tried various flavors of Crazy Rumors balms, and I think I like the coffee-themed “Perk” collection best, but there are also flavors inspired by tea, ice cream, etc. The formula is effective but non-greasy and it makes a good base for lip color.

What are some of your own skincare essentials? Feel free to share in the comments.

Disclaimer: I’ve purchased all these products for myself, more than once.

  1. I’m convinced to try the Lanolin soap. It sounds like it ticks so many boxes, including the cute packaging one. (P.S. Picked up the Lavanilla natural deodorant, and you were right – very effective!)

    1. So glad the deo worked for me! I’ve worn it every day this summer, with a very few exceptions (e.g. job interviews), and I’m still impressed!
I do love this little soap. The ingredients don’t look like anything special, but somehow it just works so well for me.

  2. The two skincare products I have bought over and over and over again (like multiple bottles per year for years on end) are classics: Cetaphil cleanser and Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (I get the biggest pump bottles I can find). Guaranteed not to irritate my sensitive skin or make me break out. I rotate other products in but I always come back to these basics. Usually I keep a heavier cream on hand to layer on top of the Clinique lotion where my skin is drier — forehead and cheeks, but not my nose and chin. Lately I’m liking Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and Toleriane Riche for that. The Body Shop also makes a nice, light day cream without SPF (which often breaks me out), the aloe vera one. And I’ve been using Neutrogena salicylic acne pads for exfoliation.

For body, my most re-bought products are Neutrogena body oil and body butters from The Body Shop, any of the nut-based ones. (I wait for them to go on sale!)

  3. Great web site you’ve got here.. It’s hard to find
excellent writing like yours these days. I seriously appreciate individuals like you!

    Take care!!
