Covet: Compagnie de Provence Limited Edition Marseille Soap

Screen Shot 2013-11-02 at 6.11.27 PM

Compagnie de Provence specializes in liquid and solid soaps inspired by traditional Marseille soap-making recipes; I’m quite partial to the liquid formula. And this limited edition version, which “celebrates Marseille-Provence as the 2013 cultural capital of Europe” and is offered in a “black silkscreened glass bottle, which depicts iconic images of the region,” is something I’d want to own just for the packaging, even if I didn’t like the actual product so much. The bottle is designed by Marseille artist Stephan Muntaner, who has worked before with Compagnie de Provence. “From Marseille’s harbour to Arles amphitheater, from Cézanne to Van Gogh, from the sardine to the cicadas, rediscover Provence in a new light,” reads the promotional text.

Covet: Charlotte Olympia “Fairy Tales” Shoes

CS0

I love fashion. And I love books. (Not in some hipster-Instagram, “I love books! they’re so old-school!” way, but as someone who has been reading actual books for close on four decades, and owns hundreds of them, and spends much of her time in libraries, and most definitely does not own an e-reader. Okay, rant over.)

I would never actually wear these shoes, but they’re certainly fun to look at, aren’t they? with their heels embossed and ridged to look like the spines of very old leather-bound books? They belong to Charlotte Olympia’s “Fairy Tales” collection. So much better than a glass slipper.

Covet: L’Occitane Fall 2013 Shea Flowers of Love Collection

P.aspx

Sorting through a few press releases in my e-mail in-box, I was happy to read this announcement (and to see these lovely images):

“This October, L’OCCITANE will introduce a colorful Limited-Edition Shea Butter Collection, Shea Flowers of Love. The series adds a touch of cheer to winter by combining three unique scents (Rose TendernessSubtle Violet and Passionate Jasmine) with their signature ingredient, Shea Butter.”

Each scent will be available in a travel-size hand cream ($12), a body cream ($22), and a lip balm ($12). Since rose and violet are my two favorite fragrance notes, and I’m a longtime fan of L’Occitane’s shea butter products, I’ll be tempted to scoop up a few of these limited edition items.

Covet: tenoverten Wall Street Nail Polish

I recently attended the Elements Showcase, a biannual trade fair for “niche” fragrance houses and a few select beauty lines, and between rounds of smelling perfumes, perfumes, a few scented candles, and more perfumes, I sat down for a mini-manicure at the Tenoverten table. I wrote about Tenoverten (“ten over ten”) and the brand’s line of polish last year (see here), and this time around I was able to sample a new shade: Wall Street.

I was so entranced by this polish that I forgot to take a photo of the bottle, and when I got home I realized that the polish wasn’t going to show up well in photographs. Well, I tried. Here’s what I got…

Covet: Book Skirt from Garnet Hill

skirt

I usually wear dresses, rather than skirts with tops, but if I were looking for a new skirt for autumn, this one from Garnet Hill would be at the top of my wishlist. Why? Because it has a print of bookshelves. The catalogue suggsts that each row of books also “looks like an urban skyline.” Sure, why not? Two of my favorite things.
