Remember doing “back to school” shopping for school supplies? Fresh new notebooks, pencils waiting to be sharpened for the first time, a pristine pink eraser, maybe some stickers—everything so tidy and promising.
I get the same feeling when I buy new makeup. And although I don’t reserve the experience for early September, it still feels the perfect time to pick up a few cosmetics staples.

As I mentioned in my recent round-up of November favorites, lately I’ve been gravitating towards beauty products with a bit of sparkle. They lift my mood, at a time of year when I tend to be somewhat grumpy (more so than ever this year! yay!) and they work well for day-to-evening situations when holiday parties start to pop up on the calendar…

I’ve mentioned before that Guerlain has been one of my beauty-product obsessions of 2014, and the Autumn 2014 collection has been on my mind for the past few weeks. I was curious about one of the Ecrin 4 Couleurs eye shadow “quads,” but I wasn’t certain how it would look in person or whether it would work for me.
I had my chance to find out a few weeks ago, when I had my makeup done at Bergdorf Goodman’s Guerlain counter last month and the Guerlain regional makeup artist selected Les Sables from her pile of products and began using it on me.

Last week I made my first visit to the first Tony Moly store in the United States. I was lured to Tony Moly by the rumors of hand creams in containers shaped like apples and lipsticks in cases shaped like cats and all sorts of glitter and twinkle and cuteness. I was not disappointed. (Well, they don’t have the cat lipsticks, yet… but I live in hope.)
Being me, I managed to seek out a more practical item or two amidst all the fun. I picked up a pencil called Crystal Lovely Eyes (or, as the product itself reads, Crystal Lovley Eyes) for $8.

This month, I’ve been reviewing the products that I picked up during a small binge at Face Stockholm—last week I did a show-and-tell with an eyeliner pencil called Kiki, and today’s subject is a cream eyeshadow.
The proper name of this product is Krämögonskugga. I don’t know why Face Stockholm left this name in Swedish…but I haven’t worn a cream shadow in ages, and this one looked interesting, so I gave it a closer look.
The friendly sales associate suggested a shade called Cashmere, which the Face Stockhom describes as a “cream chocolate.” It’s a medium brown with a cool tinge. Here’s a swatch…

Sometimes, on a cloudy and frigid late-winter day when you’re feeling down, you just have to buy something completely self-indulgent and light-hearted. (Well, maybe you don’t, but I do!) This month, it was Paul & Joe Beauté to the rescue. I’m always fond of their limited edition cosmetics packaging, and this kitten design is a Paul & Joe classic.

I own several of Sunday Riley’s Prismasilk Eye Colors and I use them almost daily—Sanders is my current favorite, and Moon Dust is a handy basic. I’ve recently been dipping into Pot of Gold, a golden shimmer.
