Covet: John Derian for Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf Goodman is celebrating its 111th Anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, a number of designers have created limited-edition items honoring the always-elegant New York department store.

I’m especially smitten with John Derian‘s “handcrafted découpage tray featuring a rendition of the Bergdorf Goodman building.” It shows the architects’ original design for the store’s Fifth Avenue façade, courtesy of Columbia University’s Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library.

Covet: Book Cover Tote Bags

I really don’t need any more tote bags, but if I did, I’d scoop up one of these totes featuring vintage book covers.

Here’s one of my favorite books, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (1925), represented by its original Francis Cugat cover, a hallucinatory image  of an illuminated fairground or city skyline and a woman’s face materializing against a dream-blue sky.

Covet: NK Candles by Niho Kozuru

I love candles and I love historic architecture, so I can’t help admiring these candles. They’re designed by artist Niho Kozuru, who specializes in sculpture (in a range of materials) inspired by architectural details. Covet: Shiseido Eudermine in Anniversary Packaging

I have a few favorites in the Shiseido product line, and I’ve been aware of this major Japan-based brand since my twenties, but I tend to forget just how long Shiseido has been around. This year marks Shiseido’s 140th anniversary. In honor of the occasion, the brand looks back at its history (enjoy this illustrated timeline!) and has issued a limited edition of Eudermine Revitalizing Essence, one of its oldest (and best-selling) products, in a facsimile of its original 1897 bottle.

Covet: Lipstick Queen “Liptropolis” Lipstick Trio

I’ve been a fan of “Lipstick Queen” Poppy King and her various lipstick lines since the early 1990s, so I’m always curious about her newest products. I haven’t seen this one in person yet, but it looks promising: a “volume” of three lipsticks called “Liptropolis.” They’re named for three Manhattan neighborhoods: SoHo (red), Upper East Side (nude), and Central Park (peach). Their texture reportedly falls midway between matte and sheer (or, in Poppy’s parlance, “Sinner” and “Saint.” Of course, New York is a little bit of both…)
