Tenoverten Nail Polishes: Let Your Fingers Do The Walking

Two of my blogging obsessions are beauty products and New York City, so when I come across something that connects both subjects, I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

On a recent visit to the bi-annual Elements Showcase (a niche/artisan fragrance trade show with a few extras), I met the founders-owners of the Tenoverten nail salons (“ten over ten,” get it?) and I had a chance to try Tenoverten’s own line of nail polish. The collection currently includes fourteen shades named after streets in downtown Manhattan.

On the Street: Botticelli at BVLGARI

The Italian retailer Bulgari occupies prime real estate at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifty-seventh Street for its New York flagship. The large areas of the building’s facade above street level are often filled with blown-up images of the brand’s jewelry and handbags. The last time I walked by, however, I noticed that Bulgari was showing us something different, a much older piece of Italian culture: details of the Renaissance masterpiece Primavera by Sandro Botticelli.  Continue reading “On the Street: Botticelli at BVLGARI”

Covet: Lipstick Queen “Liptropolis” Lipstick Trio

I’ve been a fan of “Lipstick Queen” Poppy King and her various lipstick lines since the early 1990s, so I’m always curious about her newest products. I haven’t seen this one in person yet, but it looks promising: a “volume” of three lipsticks called “Liptropolis.” They’re named for three Manhattan neighborhoods: SoHo (red), Upper East Side (nude), and Central Park (peach). Their texture reportedly falls midway between matte and sheer (or, in Poppy’s parlance, “Sinner” and “Saint.” Of course, New York is a little bit of both…)
